Since 1998, we have specialised in the supply and maintenance of franking machines, mailroom equipment and consumables, establishing ourselves as independent market leaders, based on our customer-focused approach.
Initially, we built our reputation in the public sector, meeting customer demand for ‘best value’ mailroom equipment amongst local authorities, government bodies, the further and higher education sectors and healthcare organisations, creating a client
base of over 3,000 publically-funded concerns.
We worked within key framework agreements, including PRO5, Advanced Procurement for Universities & Colleges, NHS Shared Business Services and DEFRA, and were subsequently approved by the largest procurement organisation, Crown Commercial Services. Latterly, we diversified into the third sector, providing sophisticated direct mail resources for charities, non-profit organisations and fund-raising bodies.
We also extended into the private sector, dealing increasingly with large corporations, professional firms, high street and online retailers, and enterprising SMEs, enabling them to sharpen up their everyday mail management and enhance their direct marketing strategies. To cater for the variety of postal delivery options, we partnered with carriers like TNT Post and UK Mail to offer our customers the best value solution for sending their mail. Added to our comprehensive support and back-up packages, we promise no hidden charges on equipment rentals, postage crediting and scale chip updates, which has all helped develop a strong strand of customer loyalty.
Mailing Systems Ltd
In 2017, we acquired a well-established distributor of post room equipment, Mailing Systems Limited of Weston-super-Mare and its associated brand Frank My Mail. Supplying a wide range of businesses across the South West and Wales, the company enjoyed an outstanding local reputation and, like ourselves, was among the first businesses to be approved by the Royal Mail as an independent equipment provider. The MSL operation added around twenty per cent to our customer base, as part of our strategic plan to double the size of the business over the next few years.
Following the successful acquisition of Mailing Systems in 2017, The Mailing Room subsequently purchased another regional franking machine business in early 2018, MailServe of Haywards Heath, West Sussex, and its sister consumables company Monsters Ink, both of which operated along the M3 corridor. This added a further 700 customer accounts to our operation and extended our geographical reach into the South East, giving us added regional brand exposure and familiarising our name with other potential customers in that area. Once again, this strategic purchase is in line with our objective of doubling the size of the TMR business within the next few years.
August 2018 continued the ambitious programme of growth for The Mailing Room in its 20th year, with the acquisition of a further independent franking machine supplier, Franking Direct of Brentwood in Essex. Their existing customer base in the outer London area helps to further grow our national presence and builds on TMR’s position as the country’s leading independent. The new accounts will be supported alongside existing customers from the TMR head office in the NW, with the added benefit of our team of factory-trained mobile engineers for Royal Mail authorised service and annual maintenance.
