Royal Mail Approved: What It Means For Us

24 April 2014

The Mailing Room – already the largest independent franking machine supplier in the UK – has now become fully licensed by the Royal Mail to inspect, maintain and repair franking machines. This is a significant achievement as the Royal Mail seal of approval is the gold standard for franking services and you should not consider buying or renting a franking machine if it has not been approved by the Royal Mail.

As you would expect, the standards demanded by the Royal Mail are exceedingly high and only four manufacturers – Pitney Bowes, Neopost, Frama and Francotyp Postalia Ltd – have so far been approved to produce them in the UK. The Mailing Room received its Royal Mail license to maintain and service franking machines produced by these prestigious manufacturers after completing the Royal Mail’s extensive requirements and recruiting a highly experienced team of service engineers to support their customers’ franking equipment.

If you use a franking machine for your mail services, you must now have the equipment maintained and inspected by a Royal Mail-licensed service provider. Traditionally, it has been the franking machine provider – whether the manufacturer or independent dealer – that has supplied maintenance services for the machines they provide to businesses. However, each business is free to choose franking maintenance services from among the UK’s licensed service providers and that select group now includes The Mailing Room.

The Mailing Room has initially been approved to maintain Pitney Bowes equipment but this will extend to other manufacturers later. Services offered by The Mailing Room will include annual inspections to ensure your business’ franking machine is in good working order, next day call out for repairs and machine replacement where necessary. As well as recruiting a team of professional engineers with an average of 15 years of knowledge, new ISO9001 processes will ensure that all services are of the highest possible standard.

With over 7,000 customers – including HMRC, NHS and Jewson – nationwide, The Mailing Room have an unparalleled record of customer service, providing not only knowledge and expertise but great savings too. Becoming a licensed independent inspector and maintainer of franking machines will allow the company to extend its services and offer even greater value for customers. As Andrew Parmenter, Marketing Manager of The Mailing Room explains, “Customer service has always been the most important area of our business and our maintenance will follow the very high standards set in this area. We believe many existing franking machine customers currently receive poor value for money for their maintenance service and The Mailing Room aim to offer an improved alternative to existing suppliers.”

With its newly approved Royal Mail license, The Mailing Room can now provide businesses with every aspect of their franking requirements, from helping them choose and install the highest quality equipment to inspecting, maintaining and servicing machines at unbeatable value.
